Submit Your Ideas

Our mission is to change society’s perception and treatment of women, and you can help us achieve it.  Research is crucial to our work, because it documents what’s important to women from all walks of life.  Advocating solutions to these concerns through the use of mass media and interactive technology is key in generating change. If you’d like to propose an issue to be researched, or if you have an idea for its solution, we invite you to submit it for consideration.

We invite you to share your ideas.

Encourage women to support each other in the workplace. Men compete against each other, but still shake hands and go out for a drink together after. Women should take note on how to do this better. Also, women need to learn why there is “No crying in baseball”

Most of us have seen the Devil Wears Prada.  Many of us have even read the book.  Now there is talk of a t.v. series.  What impact does our fashion-conscious culture have on young girls?  Does so much media focus on “bling” distract girls from academic pursuits and reinforce the image of women as passive observers rather than active players in politics, law, medicine and other professions? What can we do to ensure that girls are exposed to a wider range of images and encouraged to pursue their dreams, whatever they are?

You need to do research on language and gender.  For example, it is very male chauvinistic to call women “guys” and to say, “you guys” in a mixed group. It is also very male chauvinistic to NOT apologize if you accidentally call women “guys”.

There needs to be discussion re: those of us who work in high risk environments who are sexually harassed by bosses--when this happens, they shut us down professionally, so when we see a safety or security concern, it isn’t handled.

Study the representation of women in media, in advertising and do studies on how that impacts psychology and attitudes of women and men about women. I find the current atmosphere abysmal—and again accepted without a peep by major women’s orgs.

Ever think about doing research on how women are treated in sports? This comes to mind, given the recent events in the media. Thanks.

I heard Faye speak at a conference a few years back. I was so pumped afterwards! Has she ever thought about doing a campus tour to speak with younger generations of women? Keep up the work.
