(New York)—How women’s vote in November will be influenced by the presidential candidates’ positions on women-specific issues will be released by a CFAW nationally representative poll of women on Tuesday, August 26 at the Democratic National Convention.
* How do women plan to vote?
* Which of the presidential candidates do they think will win?
* What will it take for die-hard supporters of Sen. Hillary Clinton to switch to Sen. Barack Obama? Which will go to Sen. John McCain?
Survey results will be announced by CFAW President Faye Wattleton, who will be at the Democratic National Convention speaking the media about the findings and other issues, including women’s priorities in the 2008 Democratic Party Platform.
“The 2008 Democratic Party Platform reflects a clear message to the electorate: Women’s unique realities will be integral to every policy of the party’s candidate. We hope that the Republican Party Platform is likewise committed,” Wattleton said.
Wattleton will join ABC News Sam Donaldson for analysis of Clinton’s speech to the delegates on August 25, as well as the significance of her presidential run to the advancement of women’s rights and opportunities.
Earlier that day Wattleton will participate in a panel hosted by The Common Good and moderated by Dan Abrams, NBC News Chief Legal Correspondent. “Culture Wars,” which will discuss the role of race, gender, ethnicity, religion and values in the fall campaign, will also include Gov. Bill Richardson (NM); Sen. Amy Klobuchar (MN); Rep. Harold Ford, Jr.; DLC Chair; Rep. Carolyn Maloney (NY); Tucker Carlson, MSNBC, Markos Moulitsas, Daily Kos; DeeDee Myers, Former White House Press Secretary; and Richard Wolffe, Newsweek.
On Aug. 24, Wattleton will discuss the changes needed to improve the lives of women in America during a presentation at Live from Main Street, the kickoff event of the Big Tent, where activists and media will meet throughout the DNC. The televised panel, hosted by GritTV’s Laura Flanders, will explore the meaning of the buzz word “change” in the progressive agenda and in the lives of all Americans. Wattleton will be joined at the panel by Van Jones, Green For All; David Barsamian, Colorado’s Alternative Radio; and Jim Hightower, bestselling author and radio commentator.
