(New York, NY) - The Center for the Advancement of Women has a new Vice President of Communications and with that, an expanded capacity to spread truthful information about women’s issues and priorities. Mónica Contreras, who joined the Center on February 19, plans to increase mass media and interactive technology resources to enhance the effort.
“Our goal is to shape the public’s perception and treatment of women by disseminating research-based data on the issues that most affect their lives,” said Faye Wattleton, President of the Center for the Advancement of Women. “We are thrilled to have Mónica’s talents and expertise at the helm of this pivotal aspect of our mission.”
Before joining the Center, Contreras was Director of Public Affairs at Cox Communications Southern Arizona and owner of Nexo Communication, a consulting firm that provided Latino public relations services to clients in Arizona and northern Mexico. Contreras also occupied leadership roles as Director of Financial Development for the American Red Cross in Southern Arizona, and as Marketing Manager for American Industries International in El Paso, Texas.
Originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, Contreras was Board Member of Planned Parenthood of Southern Arizona; Board Chair of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; Board Member of the YMCA of Metropolitan Tucson; and volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson. Contreras earned a B.A. in communication from the University of Texas at El Paso.
